Part of the so-called Death Railway in Kanchanaburi, Thailand, seen here to the left of the river. The Japanese army had conquered much of Southeast Asia during World War II, including Thailand. After taking over Burma, the Japanese needed to extend their supply lines and so explored the idea of building a railway through this terrain. But how to do it in the shortest time possible?
