Socotra Island, in Yemen, has white sandy beaches and pristine clear waters that sometimes are painted with a subtle pink hue. They’re a favorite attraction among tourists, who often camp on the shores. The coral reef in Dhi Hamri is rich with marine life and worth snorkeling in. This view was near the coastal city of Qalansiya, Socotra’s second largest after the capital, Hadibu. Although the origin of the name Socotra is obscure, some say it stems from Sanskrit for “island of bliss”.
