Angkor Wat is a great feat of Khmer architecture. The site symbolizes the universe, with the Hindu Mount Meru at its center (the main temple’s towers, above), surrounded by the continents (the courtyards) and the oceans around them (the moat). The first photo is a detail of the carvings on the wall on the right in the panoramic photo. Devas (deities) adorn the walls, depicted holding the enormous multi-headed serpent in The Churning of the Ocean of Milk. (Click on the panoramic photo to enlarge it).
I couldn’t believe that those stairs were once used to reach the temple – they’re too steep!
